Mother Blessingways
Every expectant mother needs love and support as she approaches the birth of her baby (or adoption). To be honored by a close circle of sister-friends and family within a powerful ceremony can help the mother spiritually, emotionally and physically as she prepares to deliver her beautiful baby.
What is a Blessingway?
A Blessingway or Mother Blessing is an ancient native ceremony that honors the mother about to give birth. Within the ceremony she is honored for who she is, for giving the gift of life, and for who she will become as she begins the new journey as a mother. She is blessed and honored for her beauty and her strength, and is continually reminded of her connection to all women.
Mare’s Background
The Blessingway is a sacred and fun ceremony and celebration. While Mare’s ceremonial training has been with Native American teachers, it can be adapted to any spiritual tradition or belief system. Mare works spiritually with the Great Divine Mother that transcends all traditions and brings this deeply compassionate and healing spiritual energy into her ceremonies. Details
The Blessingway may include poems, prayers, art (painted stones), belly painting, a birthing necklace, group altar and more. The women attending bring gifts that may include altar pieces, spa items, beads for the birthing necklace or other items. The ceremony is custom designed around the desires of the expectant mother. It is usually a two hour ceremony with a potluck meal either before or after the ceremony.
Note: Mare is also available to lead Grandmother and mature Mother Blessingways to honor mothers who are raising or already raised their children. These ceremonies are a way for families to recognize all the unconditional compassion and support that your mother has given you throughout your life.
Mare’s service in planning a Blessingway includes:
• A meeting to discuss your vision & wishes for the Blessingway. I am available to meet with the mother-to-be or if the Blessingway is being sponsored by friends & family, we can have a group discussion. We can meet by Skype, phone or in person depending on your location.
• Planning the event, rituals, and activities. Special extras like body paint, henna tattoos, belly casting, or a professional belly dancer can be arranged, however, separate fees may apply.
• Facilitating the ceremony and the circle at the venue of your choice (usually a private home is the coziest atmosphere).
